Neuer Markt

Franka Hoernschemeyer (*1958, lives in Berlin) creates out of plasterboard,

supports and shuttering, spaces which have their starting point in the given

architecture, and which in spite of the dense material acquire an abstract quality:

spaces in themselves. The grid-like plan of Zamość provided the approach

for a labyrinth made out of high door sections, which follow a strictly ordered

orthogonal plan. The visitors, who moved through the labyrinth,

via their bodies broke the orthogonal power, transforming the rigid grid

into a unregimented series of opening an closing spaces.

For Potsdam the artist has once again designed a labyrinthian structure

of moveable elements, but in response to the cityplan - avoiding the orthogonal.

The material in contrast is even more massive: steel shuttering elements

and heavy shuttering boards form the spatial sculpture at Neuer Markt.
