Columns in front of the City Library
Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse (corner of Am Kanal)
Lawrence Weiner (*1942 lives in New York & Amsterdam) builds sculptures with
language which can be carried by walls, posters and also beer mats or manhole
covers. Whilst in Zamość he occupied the Renaissance arcades of the Armenian
houses in the main square with his statement Catalogue #851 in Potsdam
with the same work he has given a strong graphic expression to the rows
of pillars which run around the Potsdam Library, a building from the early 1970's
at Platz der Einheit. Visible from a distance, the white text stands on a luminous
red background.
